The legendary city of Ayodhya, is identified in the epic Ramayana as the birthplace of the Hindu deity Rama, the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu and is regarded as the first of the seven most important pilgrimage sites for Hindus. It has been stated in the epic, Ramayana, that Lord Rama took birth on the banks of river Sarayu, in Ayodhya. There had been various political and religious disputes over the land, but now the Ram Janmabhoomi land has been given to the Ram Janmabhoomi Trust and a grand temple is under construction. The construction of Ram Mandir commenced in August 2020 and the temple was consecrated with the deity of Balak Ram on 22 January 2024. The temple construction has been accompanied by a $10 billion plan "encompassing a new airport, revamped railway station, and township development" to transform the ancient Ayodhya city into a global religious and spiritual tourist destination.
